GARDASIL WARNING
We've had a warning about Gardasil, the cervical cancer vaccine posted on LeQuadrillage for the past year. HEALTH INSURANCE you need to be aware of this
When you begin your quest for health insurance, it's really very important to do your homework. Coverage for alternative treatments is a widely variable option among the health insurance providers. You'll do well to learn exactly what therapies are covered before you select an insurance provider.
HMOs
If cost is your greatest concern, then an HMO, (Health Maintenance Organization), is probably your best bet. This works very well for young healthy people. Healthcare is provided by a group of doctors and other healthcare professionals for a flat, monthly premium. You will usually be required to pay a nominal additional fee for each visit. If you opt for this, you will be assigned a primary care physician who will refer you to specialists within the HMO as necessary. All tests, procedures, drugs, and services must be approved, and only services performed within the HMO are covered. Some plans allow you to use doctors outside the HMO, (Point of Service, or POS option) at additional cost. Bear in mind that HMO doctors are rewarded for keeping costs down. This means they may fail to order needed tests, and they may drastically limit their time with you.
PPOs
If you don't mind paying a bit more for coverage, you might look into the Preferred Provider Organization. PPOs give you greater flexibility and a much broader choice of doctors. You are not required to use the doctors directly employed by the organization, as in HMOs. Here you pay for services as they are rendered rather than a flat rate, and you're also likely to have a substantial deductible to pay before the benefits kick in.
