At some time in our lives, we all face health issues. Problems arise for us personally and with our families, and often we face them alone, at a loss and at the mercy of a care providing system that more often than not, puts its own fiscal concerns, dogmatic attitudes, intellectual limitations and just plain indifference in the way of providing effective solutions to problems we've entrusted to it. And most of us aren't stupid! We recognize this, but are helpless to do anything about it.
I went through some bad times when my parents became very ill. My Mom with heart disease, my Dad with rheumatoid arthriitis that failed to respond to any conventional treatment. My mother was scheduled for bypass surgery by her cardiologist when my physician husband decided to step in. Being a progressive, thinking maverick in his profession, he quickly located a doctor well versed in IV Chelation Therapy and referred her to this wonderful procedure, thus avoiding what he called a useless operation. He then referred my father to another doctor who was able, by so called unconventional means, to get him pain free in twelve weeks! Both of my folks are in great health today.
This experience led me to conclude that we're all at the mercy of whatever doctor we're seeing and that it's in our own best interest to take charge of our own health and not simply lay there expecting to be taken care of. But in order to do this, we need to know where and how to acquire the knowledge and understanding of what ails us in order to make informed decisions about our own health care. And we can rarely rely on our doctor to do this if the university dogma dominates his/her opinions.
