Anyone taking supplements to maintain overall health cannot afford to neglect the inclusion of fish oil as an important part of daily health regimen.

 

INFLAMMATION CONTROL

Health, brains, beauty and appearance, and general well being are all affected by an individual's inflammation status.  We're not talking about the inflammation that sets in when you pick up a sliver in your finger here.  That's a "good" inflammation, a temporary condition that helps us fight infection.  The destructive inflammation that destroys the body over time is the chronic inflammation that we don't realize we have.  Chronic inflammation, a condition most of us are living with, has many causes; oxidants, dietary insufficiencies, prostaglandins, and other factors

Now it's not or purpose here to get into the chemical dynamics of this subject, so we're going to ask you to just take our word that Omega3 DHA Fish Oil counteracts inflammation through the action of two important acids found in fish oil.  These are Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA), and Docosahaenoic Acid (DHA).  These are essential fatty acids that the body cannot produce by itself.

Chronic inflammation builds so gradually that we can't feel it or see it immediately.  One day we wake up with aches and pains, "senior moments," dried out hair, itchy skin, and splitting nails.  And we wonder where all those problems came from. The possibility that we're short of Omega3 essential fatty acids is very good.

What Are They Anyway?

What are these things?  Without getting into the chemistry of the essential fatty acids, it's almost impossible to construct a coherent and understandable answer to that question.  DHA, docosahexanoic acid, is without a doubt the most complex and beneficial fatty acid, where the human body is concerned.  DHA is essential for the growth and functional development of the brain in infants and is required for maintenance of normal brain function in adults.

Here are the other Omega3 fatty acids, listed in order of complexity and overall efficacy for the body:

  •  EPA, Eicosapentaenoic acid, has 20 carbon bonds, as opposed to the 22 carbon bonds of DHA.  This makes it difficult for the body to convert EPA to DHA, because chemically, it has to add two carbon bonds. On the other hand, DHA needs to only drop off two carbon bonds to create EPA, a simpler chemical process. (Sorry about that., we try to avoid technicalities like this.)
  •  ALA, Alpha linolenic acid, is commonly found in flax seed oil. It is almost impossible for the body to manufacture DHA from it because it has only 18 carbon bonds.
  • DPA, Docosapentaenoic acid also has 22 carbon bonds and works to bolster both DHA and EPA.

 

 

 

 DON'T DEPEND ON YOUR FOOD TO GIVE YOU WHAT'S NEEDED!

Consumption of the Omega3 type fats is at an all time low these days.  During the process of prepping foods for the market, most manufacturers remove these oils and replace them with pro-carcinogenic omega-6 type fats.  In the past, we were able to obtain some omega3 oils from animal products.  Animals were left to graze and obtained omega3 fats from the grasses they consumed.  In modern corporate farming methods, food animals are fed grains (and sometimes ground up newspapers) which have little or no omega oils in them.

So we're left with getting these beneficial oils from sea food and supplements.  And here a problem arises that we need to consider.  This is important!  Both the mount of Omega3 oils we consume and the ratio of omega3's to omega6's is critical.  Remember, Omega-6 fats are pro-carcinogenic!   Consuming large amounts of Omega-6's can suppress the entry of omega 3 oils into cancer cell membranes.  That's just one of the factors to consider.

SOME OTHER THINGS TO CONSIDER

Omega-3's improve immune system function (DHA plays the greatest role in the beneficial effects).  Several cancers, including breast, prostate, colon, brain, and lung cancer are related to inflammation.   Using drugs to rduce inflammation can slow, and occasionally even shrink hese tumors.  Numerous nutrients found in fruits and vegetables dramatically reduce inflammation and accomplish the same things without the side effects of drugs.  Omega-3 fatty acids, especially DHA, reduce tumor invasions.  

PREVENTIVE AND CURATIVE PROPERTIES

Omega-3 fatty acids, a unique component of fish and fish oils, and to a lesser extent in eggs, have an impressive list of preventive and curative properties.  Here are some of them:

  • Help reduce cholesterol and triglycerides, lowering the risk of heart attack and stroke.

Omega3 essential fatty acids (EFA's) should be of special interest to cancer patients.  Omega3 fatty acids supress tumor growth and tumor angeogenesis.  Men who eat the most omega3 oils have the lowest incidence of prostate cancer.  Women with the highest DHA levels in their breast tissue have the lowest incidence of breast cancer.

AND NOW - THE TRAP!

 Sound too good to be true?  Well, it is if you rush out and buy the first fish oil you run into in your local drug store or health food emporium.  The depressing fact is that a multitude of manufacturers, seeing a nifty profit in marketing this product,  are churning out gallons and gallons of worthless product.  The marketplace is inundated with fish oil capsules filled with  highly contaminated oils that have had the very life processed out of them and retain little, if any, of the properties for which they are coveted.

The Negatives of Saturated Fats

All saturated fats, such as butter, have very few links in their atomic chain.  These fats are solid fats and remain so.
