The use of laetrile for treating cancer is banned in the U. S. The substance has been a source of controversy for years. So the LeQuadrillage Research Group decided to look into it to see what all the fuss was about. What we learned was enlightening, disturbing, in some ways depressing, and not at all surprising. It all boils down to just another treatment that is being deliberately withheld from us in the interest of maintaining profits for Big Pharma and the cancer industry. But we're getting ahead of ourselves here Many folks we've spoken with are convinced that laetrile is a panacea in the treatment of cancer and go to great lengths to get it, even going so far as to treat themselves We need to tell everyone, loudly and clearly - don't go out and buy a bunch of apricot pits and start treating yourself for cancer! It just ain't gonna work!
FIRST A LITTLE BACKGROUND
With Asides When We Can't Help Ourselves
First off, about 150 years ago, a French chemist ran across a natural compound in bitter almonds (bitter almonds are now banned in the U.S.) and certain other fruit pits. This stuff is known as laetrile, aka amygdalin, Its found in abundance in apricot pits, apple seeds, millet seeds, plum kernels, cherry kernels, peach kernels, strawberry, raspberry, & blackberry seeds, boysenberries, currents, gooseberries, huckleberries, and - of all things, bamboo sprouts.

There is a strong community around that are unwaveringly convinced that laetrile kills cancer cells. It does this without harming healthy cells. Doctors who have used it claim achieving a 100% recovery rate for their patients. We'd like to believe this. We don't. We'll tell you why a little later.
The first recorded use for treating cancer in the U.S. with amygdalin was in the early 1920s. The medical establishment then deemed amygdalin too toxic and abandoned its use. In the 1950s, Ernest T Krebs Sr, MD, and his son, E.T. Krebs Jr, MD, brought it back, calling it laetrile (laevo-mandelonitrile-glucoside). Laetrile is actually a member of a group of chemicals called nitrilosides, aka Vitamin B17. These compounds are non toxic, and as we've stated, are found in many edible plants.
The problem with the Drs Krebs was that their research was sloppy and their record keeping was a disaster. Had they been more meticulous, the resulting controversy would not have developed on the scale that subsequently happened.
In 1974, the American Cancer Society supported heavily by the pharmaceutical industry, officially labeled Laetrile as "quackery," and even today Quackwatch continues to post highly biased articles, reeking with inaccuracies, denouncing the use of laetrile as a cancer cure. But then, Quackwatch is maintained and supported by the pharmaceutical industry.
In the 1980s, the National Cancer Institute, with the enthusiastic encouragement of the pharmaceutical industry, attacked laetrile so hard it was never submitted to the FDA for approval. This drove thousands of people to Mexico for treatment with laetrile, and many if not most of the clinics that sprang up there hadn't the slightest inkling of how to use this substance. This of course did nothing to enhance the image of laetrile as a cancer cure.

So now, while laetrile is used in the treatment of cancer all over the world, it is not approved in the U.S. as a treatment for cancer and the FDA actively seeks jail terms for any vendors selling laetrile as a treatment for cancer, calling it a "highly toxic substance." But we've listed some of the foods that contain this "highly toxic substance." And Brewer's Yeast also contains laetrile.
And then there are other foods that contain this "highly toxic substance. Here are some more of them:
-
Grains, Brown rice, Buckwheat, Millet, Barley
-
Nuts and seeds; cashews & flax seeds; macadamia nuts, pecans, walnuts, bitter almond
-
Beans; fava beans, garbanzo beans, lentils, lima beans, mung beans
-
Vegetables; spinach, alfalfa, watercress, yams, beet tops, bamboo shoots
-
sorghum, cane sugar, and brewer's yeast
The way laetrile works is that its molecules contain cyanide, which kills cancer cells. The cyanide kills only the cancer cells. It does not harm the healthy cells. This is called selective toxicity and here's how it works:
When laetrile comes into contact with normal cells, the normal cells release an enzyme that breaks the laetrile into two byproducts which are beneficial and help the body produce vitamin B12. Any excess of these byproducts leaves the body through the kidneys. It's important not to take probiotics when taking laetrile orally. The good bacteria in probiotics can sometimes convert to cyanide.
STILL DON'T SEE WHAT ALL THE FUSS IS ABOUT?
Of Course You Don't - We Haven't Told You Yet
So far it seems as though we're missing out on a good bet and if we get cancer, then all we need to do is start eating a bunch of apricot seeds and we'll get cured. Sorry. It doesn't work that way. We did say that laetrile kills cancer cells. We did not say it killed ALL of them. There's the kicker!
Back in the 1970s, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center assigned Dr Kanematsu Sugiura to investigate the laetrile properties. Dr Sugiura, a highly respected scientist and meticulous researcher went to work studying laetrile's effect on tumors in mice. What he learned was interesting.
Dr Sugiura had consistent, positive results in shrinking secondary tumors in mice. But he was unable to get laetrile to attack the primary cells. What this means is that laetrile, by itself, will not, can not, cure cancer! Secondary cancer cells are the cells that have migrated (metastasized) from the original (primary) cancer. So it appears that laetrile is very useful for preventing the spread of cancer, but it cannot be used as an effective cure for cancer.
BUT WAIT! ALL IS NOT LOST!
Dr Harold Manner PhD, Chairman of the Biology Department at Chicago's Loyola University, discovered that the combination of Emulsified Vitamin A, Wobe Mugos Enzymes, and Laetrile, cure cancer. And this combination does it very quickly and effectively. But you'll have to go to Germany to get treated. Or Mexico. Or Panama, Or Brazil. Anywhere but here in the U.S. where they imprison doctors who use laetrile in the treatment of cancer.
We're being protected here. Or rather, the stupendous profits of the cancer industry are being protected. If you have cancer, try discussing this with an alternative physician, or get out of the country. Chemo won't cure you. Neither will radiation or surgery! Bear this in mind. For the price of a new Honda, you can go to Germany and come home cured.
